Chwee Kueh, steamed rice cake garnished with fried “chai po”, is a simple but iconic traditional snaple food in the local hawker community. The rice cake is soft yet firm, while the chai po (preserved raddish fried with vegetable oil) is deceptively flavourly, given its “light” looking and less oily as compared to some of the other popular ones. Stall has been operating since the 1960s, I always had them during my childhood days when I was staying in the vicinity, and fast forward to today, it still tastes as good as before!
One of my favourite Chwee Kueh for sure.
